Tyg för barn - liten båt

Yuko Wakanabe

As an interior fabric designer, I wanted to create something for children. Research led me to tactile textiles with pattern. There are many printed fabrics for children, but if we respect their sensory experiences, I think they should have more tactile surfaces.

This project is inspired by my daily life being with my daughter. A few months ago her favorite thing was cutting everything. So I cut paper and created a line of several animals and opened them. She was happy when she noticed the shape of them. I thought it would be interesting and fun if I could integrate the concept of the paper to fabric. I used two techniques; the Laser-cutting and Jacquard-weaving. Laser-cutting is the simple way to put the idea into the fabric. And Jacquard-weaving is an efficient way to use not only colors and shapes but also tactile surface.
