Quantum Carnival

This project has as its starting-point my thoughts and perceptions concerning rhythm and time. How does rhythm affect the body, psyche and the physical world around us.

What is it about rhythm that makes people gather together in their thousands in order to synchronise their movements in patterns and formations to the beat of a drum? Why does music exercise such powerful attraction over us?

In the world of quantum physics it seems that time functions in a strange way. Scientists speak of imaginary time and transcendental numbers. In the microcosmos particles circulate round each other like human beings in dance or heavenly bodies round a star.

”A dancing electron is both a particle and a wave of energy at one and the same time.”
– Graham R. Fleming

During the intensive days and nights of the Carnival, all our concepts and norms are turned upside-down. People become animals, the poor become rich, night turns into day, clocks stop ticking and the rhythms of the drum take over.

Quantum Carnival

– Graham R. Fleming

Under Karnevalens intensiva dygn vänds alla våra föreställningar och normer upp och ner. Människa blir djur, fattig blir rik, natt blir dag, klockan slutar ticka och trummans rytm tar över.
